I searched to see if anyone has diaried about this detail of the scandal already, but I didn't see anything - if this is old news, let me know and I can delete if necessary.

From DM (Direct Marketing) News -

"The political scandal surrounding lobbyist Jack Abramoff dipped into the mailing industry last week when an item in his plea agreement mentioned giving money to a politician's senior staff member's wife five years ago to influence legislation regarding Internet gambling and opposing postal rate increases."

The senior staff member "has been identified in wire reports as Tony Rudy, who was DeLay's deputy chief of staff at the time and worked with Abramoff after leaving DeLay's team."

I just received the official AAR announcement about their new morning shows and I fired off a reply which I'm posting here so maybe someone might actually read it-

"I'm glad the AAR is at least being somewhat honest and open in announcing this change in advance. Rachel Maddow is terrific, but it is an awful mistake to kill Morning Sedition, the best original programming the network has produced yet.

I will look forward to Marc Maron's new show, but have to say I'm horribly disappointed with Goldberg's management moves so far. I hope that someone with actual radio experience developing a talk radio audience can be found to take AAR in a more positive direction.

I voted for Ferrer in the primary, and I am going to vote for him and support him again in the general election. I am going out on a limb to predict he will win and Bloomberg will go down to an expensive and humiliating defeat.

George W. Bush will lose a powerful ally in city hall. Bloomberg was so willing to pimp out the 9/11-scarred city for the GOP Convention it was disgusting. Listening to the morning shows on WLIB, Air America's NYC affiliate. David Dinkins interviewed Charlie Rangel and Percy Sutton earlier, now Sharpton is on and he has just given his endorsement for the Democratic Primary for NYC Mayor to Fernando Ferrer.

Sharpton disagrees with Ferrer's comment on Diallo but he says, "all the candidates have something to apologize for." Not exactly a wholehearted endorsement but Sharpton can mobilize votes so this will probably help Ferrer.

This is not a one hour diary, sorry. I'm a NYC Democrat and I have not yet decided who I'm voting for in the primary September 13th. I'm curious what the DKos community thinks of the various candidates, including those of you outside of NY.

Whichever Democratic candidate wins the primary they will have my support in the general election!

I'm not a big fan of Alan Dershowitz, but he has a good piece on HuffPost today about Rehnquist's legacy.

Here on DKos, when the news broke about Rehnquist's death there was quite a bit of debate in the comments - criticism of Rehnquist, some of it in very harsh language, was met by requests to be respectful and consider his family etc.

When Reagan died, the media went into overdrive to whitewash his awful legacy. I think we are seeing the same with Rehnquist, and Dershowitz thoroughly debunks this nonsense by recounting some of the lowlights of Rehnquist's career.

My mother always told me that when a person dies, one should not say anything bad about him. My mother was wrong. History requires truth, not puffery or silence, especially about powerful governmental figures. And obituaries are a first draft of history.

So here's the truth about Chief Justice Rehnquist you won't hear on Fox News or from politicians. Chief Justice William Rehnquist set back liberty, equality, and human rights perhaps more than any American judge of this generation. His rise to power speaks volumes about the current state of American values.

So many diaries have been posted about NOLA this week, but the ones which have the biggest impact on me are those that quote first-hand accounts of Katrina survivors and rescue volunteers. The same goes for the media reports - it is the interviews, the raw unvarnished accounts of those who are living through this which are most powerful (and probably hardest for the wingnuts to refute).

Some of the reporting on this disaster and its aftermath have been exceptional, the truth is getting past the spin machine. Will it continue? I don't know - but I hope we can preserve this eye witness history, even emailed stories which were posted here and have since scrolled down into the archives.

Has anyone set up a central clearinghouse for stories like this? A few links below the break, if you know of others please post in the comments.
