I voted for Ferrer in the primary, and I am going to vote for him and support him again in the general election. I am going out on a limb to predict he will win and Bloomberg will go down to an expensive and humiliating defeat.
George W. Bush will lose a powerful ally in city hall. Bloomberg was so willing to pimp out the 9/11-scarred city for the GOP Convention it was disgusting. Bloomberg showed total contempt for civil liberties and free speech . He is a failed mayor with nothing to show for his term - no Olympics, no stadium, and a big hole at ground zero.
It would be an understatement to say Ferrer is not a perfect candidate. But I believe Sharpton's endorsement could actually help repair the damage from Ferrer's mind-numbingly stupid and pandering comment about the Diallo killing. Many of the Democratic voters who hate Sharpton were going to vote for Bloomberg anyway.
I liked Weiner's style in the debate and if he had been less center-right on some issues I might have voted for him. Gifford Miller seemed artificial to me and I'm disappointed DFNYC supported him. I hope Ferrer can reach out to DFNYC and build a strong alliance with the netroots to help amplify his traditional base. Fields may be a better candidate in the future it didn't seem she had much of a record of accomplishments so Ferrer seemed the strongest of a weak bunch.
Weiner's gracious concession will help the Dems start to rebuild a stronger party in NYC. I hope Dean can help bring some energy to the race, Ferrer needs to link Bloomberg to Bush effectively and he will win.
