Animal groups praise Santorum
Santorum is pushing to regulate "puppy mills" in PA - a bill he co-sponsored with Dick Durbin (!). Good for him - apparently he has a good record on animal welfare issues. I'm generally ambivalent about single-issue groups endorsing politicians I otherwise despise, but does anyone else find this next quote offensive?
"He's a man with a heart, and he doesn't think it's any more acceptable to treat animals cruelly than humans," said Mary Beth Sweetland, director of research and investigations for the Norfolk, Va.-based PETA.
WTF?!?!? Are homosexuals not human, as far as PETA is concerned? Santorum seems to find cruelty towards gays perfectly acceptable, no? Certainly he would be happy to deny them equal rights in society.
The animal rights political action committee Humane USA gave $5,000 to Santorum's 2006 re-election bid and has pledged to campaign aggressively for him.
